COURSE OBJECTIVES
Participants will go through a group session and a personalised media training session, which aims to improve participants’ skills when conducting interviews or otherwise communicating with members of the media.

PREREQUISITE
• Intermediate level in English.

PLACE OF TRAINING

TOTAL DURATION
Group session of 1.5 hours, followed by individual sessions of one hour with each participant, ideally scheduled within one week of the group session.

YOUR CONSULTANT – TRAINER
Native English-speaking journalist with extensive experience in high-level publications and various media formats.

PROGRAM CONTENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES

First (group) session:

  • 10 minutes: Introduction, discussion of individual experiences and needs
  • 20 minutes: Slide presentation covering best practices of working with the media (how to prepare for an interview, developing key messages, storytelling techniques, body language and other non-verbal aspects of communication, developing a narrative, staying on message, how to exude confidence and control, the do’s and don’t of speaking to a journalist, how to handle difficult questions)
  • 45 minutes: Group exercises to develop key messages, followed by a short mock interview with each participant on a pan European issue that affects them all
  • 15 minutes: Debrief by participants and, as follow-up, identification of the specific questions that will be the basis for the one-on-one session.
     

Second (individual) session: One-hour of intensive work on sensitive subject/tricky questions for each participant, feedback, debrief.

CERTIFICATION
ECLA will issue a certificate to each participant at the end of the course indicating the exact hours of training.
